♫ It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas everywhere you go; take a look in the five and ten glistening once again with candy canes and silver lanes aglow.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas Toys in every store but the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be on your own front door...
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas everywhere you go; there's a tree in the Grand Hotel, one in the park as well, The sturdy kind that doesn't mind the snow. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas; soon the bells will start, snd the thing that will make them ring is the carol that you sing right within your heart ♪

How hard is it to find a pretty white simple dress?
So here's the short story: Theres a baptism in January and I'm the Godmother ^_^. And its all taking place in my beautiful Quisquella. It'll be warm, and even hot with all the kids, people, balloons, music, dancing and cake. Plus, the gathering will be taking place in the morning in a summer house's garden.
So whats the problem?
Well I'm in NYC now where its cold and its Christmas and it's becoming impossible to find a white dress (In Quisqueya it is accostumed that the family wears white while guests wear white or very pale pastel colors) This is all I got from the summer:
Tumblr_l9wruzq12i1qbxr7eo1_500_large
Its from Zara and its very simple and delicate. It might work adding the right accesorizes. It looks more simple in the picture because its not even ironed. Once its iron well, maybe add a belt and some gold or silver accesorizes I think I might work something out. Until now its all I got so I got to work with it. .  Unless I find something else. Any white dresses you know of online?

I couldn't find the place its going to be exactly at, but its a cross between these two following "Casa de Campos" in Quisqueya. The place where we had Anabella's baptism was a bit smaller but had these gorgeous trees and flowers all around the backyard and frontyard- like this cozy little garden. This place will be larger so the kids can run around. My sister wants to rent one of those giant playtents with all the colorful balls inside for the kids to play in- What are those called? Anywhos, I google "Casa de Campo" in Quisqueya and these where some choices and I remember it looked something like this. Isn't my little island just precious? :)
Oh and these are some inspiration pictures I had saved up, since in my crazy imagination everyone will be wearing flowers in their hair, hey its a tropical island after all, and you always catch a few people with them:

I know I know, I'm just a bit too excited about going for Christmas to my tropical little island and of course baptizing my gorgeous nephew Rafael...

A River flows in you

vbebe22 {vogue enfants}
I was a dancer since I was 4years-old until my teen years.  My teacher was always taking me in front of the class as an example for the rest of the students. I was pretty flexitable and I was always told I had the right body and specially the "right legs." The last years of dancing, I felt too much pressure on me- As if I was just always expected to be the best. I got sick once and was absent for a whole week. When I got back the teacher actually placed me in front for a dance routine everyone had learned already for the past week. As she was teaching me, I told her I would prefer to be in the back of the stage this time. But she still placed me in the front, while so many of the other dancers stood behind me. I think that was when I felt this was not for me. I felt that if I had the heart, i wouldve wanted to stay in the front no matter what. My teacher had more faith in me, than I had in myself. I noticed it was always her, and everyone else that wanted me to be a dancer more than I wanted myself. I may have had the right legs, but I just didn't have the heart. I loved it, don't get me wrong. I loved the thrill of being up in stage- The sound of my heart as the curtains where about to open- The feeling of my ballerina shoes against the soft floor, the classical music... I loved everything. And till this day everything about ballet moves me...and makes me feel that maybe just maybe I should have continued on....

This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard in my life.
It would be a dream to see it performed on stage. Just click the play buttom trust me on this one

bittersweet polaroids

So I just found out polaroids are in instinct? When did this all happened? Where was I? So here I am cleaning my room when I see my old Polaroid instant camera and I'm thinking "omg maybe I should take these to Quisqueya when I go over this christmas, it will be great to have those cute instant grainy pictures for memories." I love polaroids, they are just so nostalgic and soft, and vintage and just so darn beautiful. So of course I go online and start searching for some film when I see these crazy prices of $200 dollars for ten paper films?! I'm like, "have these stores gone insane." Of course it was just a matter of minutes when I noticed Polaroid had announced it would stop making cameras and film in 2008 or something. Anywhos, I got a little too sad :/ I just couldn't believe it. However, they supposely came back a little while ago with the new Polaroid 300 which is exactly the same as the Fujifilm instanx mini (since they had sold their rights to Fujifilm). But these cameras are not exactly like the originals, the film is quite small, think credit-card size, and not as "squared" as our beloved old ones :/. Nevertheless, it gives all of us Polaroid-lovers hope that the Polaroid is still here and may even get better -hmm maybe one day they'll make smaller/slicker cameras that won't affect the size of the original polaroids? I sure hope so.

I have been inspired...

And I have bought my own Moleskine, and I hereby promise myself I will fill it up with all sorts of thoughts, and pictures and inspiration until the very last page.
I have always bought so many journals since very young and I hardly ever even start them. I can actually say I have a collection of them by now, and sadly most of them are completely blank and brand-new *sighs* But I will fill this one up *crosses fingers* Come on, who can't resist it after reading this and this.

I am in love....

Yes, I am. Isn't that just the cutest dress ever?! Okay, I'll probably change my mind in a month or so when I fall in love with something else. However, my month's obsession is this little white dress.  This little dress was a bit famous this summer- You were able to shop for it at Modcloth.com for $90 or a little less at Urban Outfitters, Karmaloop, Shopbob, ShopNastygal, Revolveclothing and even Lulus

I know summer is long gone however I will be going to my tropical little island for December so thats enough of an excuse right? :)

the perfect baby pink lips

So after searching high and low, I have finally found the perfect light pink lipstick.
You see, I don't have any lipsticks (I know, gasp!). I had some lipsticks when I was in high school (it was the 90's and everyone had those dark brown lips-dont even want to remember those) but its been years since that. See, I like the "natural" look, so when I do wear makeup I just stick with a smoky eye and some lip treatment or gloss. For a while now, I wanted to rock the "nude lip" with my smokey eye, but every nude lipstick I tried just washed me out completely. I finally gave up on that and decided I just can't rock that too-pale-lips because I look dead in plain words. So I decided I should just get a light pink. But it was not that easy.  I tried so many and finally gave up on pink. Pink (specially cool pinks with blue undertones) certainly are not made for me. And then one day Urban Decay at Sephora made my day. My gorgeous mother happened to be looking at these strange looking lipsticks and voila! For some reason this color grabbed my attention:
And it was love at first lipstick. On me it is exactly as the pretty girl on the Jill Stuart Blush Blossom Ad all the way up in this post. It is a nude pink with brown undertones? I'm pretty bad at descriving. But there seems to be some light browns with pinks going on there, but the results are just beautiful!

Here is a picture from Temtalia's blog. Her lips are way more pale than mine so the lipstick looks quite different on her, a little bit more cool tone while on me the warm shows more. But whether you have more pigmented lips like mine, or paler lips like Temptalia's, this little lipstick is still a gem. Read her review here
I must say, I hate the packaging, to the point that I was not even going to buy it do to its bulky and rocker look, and the dagger thing at the bottom, seriously what is that all about?! I prefer a classier look, specially to my first lipstick. But I will look beyond this, because the color I must say is just gorgeous :)

Autumn in New York City

source for first picture click here, second click here.
I'm not a fan of cold weather, but I must say Autumn is like a piece of art. I'm not too thrilled because it leads to colder weather and that dreadful winter of ours :/ Nevertheless the colors of all the leaves makes it seem like youre walking through a painting. The following picture was taken by my cousin Chuchu at Tryont Park in New York City.
I assure you, theres not a more beautiful park than my enchanting Tryont park in New York City, not even Central park. The gardens in this park have no comparison. Wait, till you see these gardens in spring.

Halloween Horror- El Laberinto del Fauno

"A long time ago, in the underground realm, where there are no lies or pain, there lived a Princess who dreamt of the human world. She dreamt of blue skies, soft breeze and sunshine. One day, eluding her keepers, the Princess escaped. Once outside, the brightness blinded her and erased every trace of the past from her memory. She forgot who she was, and where she came from. Her body suffered cold, sickness and pain. Eventually she died. However, her father, the King, always knew that the Princess' soul would return, perhaps in another body, in another place, at another time. And he would wait for her, until he drew his last breath, until the world stopped turning..."
"Pan's Labyrinth" One of the most beautiful films ever made. This movie won 3 Oscars and 68 other awards and about 70 other nominations. It is truly a work of art. I can't even describe how amazing, beautiful, and captivating this movie is. It has everything you can think of. The acting is phenomenal, the scenes are breathtaking and the lines are so memorable and quoteworthy. Sometimes its scary, other times sad, other times blood-curling and other times just plain beautiful. It will always be one of my favorite movies of all time. If you have not watch this I don't even know what to say to you- you have missed out on one of the most enchanting horror/dark fairytales ever.

forever young, I want to be forever young

I want to get bangs again. But I feel they are so high-maintenance. I have dyed my hair jet black again. For some strange reason my hair keeps turning lighter with the years (shouldn't it be the opposite?) Anywhos, I dyed it jet black again but now I feel I should get bangs. Maybe it's a part of me that wants to stay young. I have seen about three or four white hairs *gasp* I know! I had one since I was around ten, but its like now they have decided to multiply -_-. And I'm even deciding if I should get some anti-aging creams and serums since I see about everyone in their twenties is doing it. I don't know, isn't that too early? Oh don't mind me, good for you if you skipped reading all this nonsense. I'm having a late-twenties crisis!

My favorite song of the week, yeah I know, no wonder huh ;)

listening to your story unfold in every swirling letter,
and the pictures in your mind appear through sleepy golden eyelashes.

wake me up when we get there.
I need some inspiration.

I'm having some blah days. Nothing much to do. And yes, I know, my blog should be full of entries now that I have the time- however, I have no inspiration to even write. I have neglected you, I know. Instead I come in here and read other blogs. As a matter of fact, its most probable that I have read about every single entry you have written these past few days. I don't comment all the time. But I have stalked your page, just so you know :), specially to those I have subscribed recently too.

my sisters...

I love my sisters so much. It's so weird how each of us live in completely different countries now. My oldest sister lives in Canada and my middle sister lives in Quisqueya. I'm the youngest and sometimes I feel I'm the one that misses them the most. Maybe cause Cesarina is married with two kids now (my cupcake and buba) and my middle sister, Yoyi, is married as well and has all our family with her in Quisqueya. In other words, they have busier lives. I just saw Cesarina when I was in Canada of course but I miss my Yoyi :( Mostly because I just found out SHE'S PREGNANT!!! YAYYYYY!!! I'm so happy! Oh I just can't wait to visit my little island of Quisqueya now! It's going to be so much better with a little baby giggling around ^_^

The absence of flaw in beauty is itself a flaw

I don't want to forget...
When I am old and wrinkly, and my boobs sag, and I can't wear skirts, I don't want to forget
I don't want to forget that I was once beautiful, and that I still am.
No, I don't want to forget that I'll still be lovely with my white hair and laugh lines.
I don't want to forget that everyone is beautiful. That everything is beautiful.
Old, young, skinny or fat, curly hair, straight hair, pouty lips, thin lips, freckles
All beautiful
Bright colorful faces, all shapes and sizes, smiles and laughter,
Beautiful, every single imperfection, every flaw: charming, pretty, cute, just lovely.
I don't want to forget
That you, reading this, YOU are beautiful
You without the makeup, and the glossy lips, and the hair straightener, and the pretty dress
the way you roll out of bed
I don't want to forget...
I don't want YOU to forget, that you my darling, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL (and so is everyone else)

The best wedding dance entrance EVER. Period.

I'm a little obssesive with this wedding entrance. I don't think its very healthy that I have watched it maybe over 1000 times over the last two years and I'm still not sick of it. I hope this couple never divorces, and when they are having issues they can look back at this and remember those times- I believe it will bring a smile to their faces and fade all their problems away- can I be any more positive? LOL! I think I love this video so much because it shows what life is all about: Love, family and friends, laughter, and never taking anything to serious and just having fun! Its just perfect! When they are old and wrinkly they can show this to their grandkids, how cool would it be to know your parents or your grandparents made the most beautiful, fun and famous wedding entrance ever? So famous it is the first on Youtube, was all over the news, radio, t.v shows (The Office and others), and even movies have mentioned it. I don't think any other will top it off, and if they do, this will always be the one that started it. "Forever" by Chris Brown adds to the perfection. Ah isnt love just beautiful?

Sep 14, 2010

I have been given a few awards in the past and being the lazy person that I am, I have not followed the rules and posted it here. However, I am truly thankful for them and always thought I will dedicate a spacial post for them but months have past and nothing. I always do this, I want to create something so perfect that I actually never even end up doing it. I know, shame on me. However, the beautiful Harlow Darling from Elegantly Wasted gave me an award and I have decided I will just do my awards as soon as they are given to me and that's that, whether my post is crappy or not. Seriously, what is my problem? Okay enough blogging and on with the award. Here are the rules:
-Post who gave you this award
-state 10 things you like
-give this award to ten other bloggers you like
Ten things I like  LOVE:
1. Summer Nights
I love summer with a passion. Especially summer nights and dusk. I just love taking walks when the sun is going down and reading with a blanket in the park. Summer is over in NYC and I'm so melancholic these days :(
2. Photography
I love capturing moments with a camera. I love photography, particularly candid ones, where people are not aware a picture is being taken. Such beautiful moments can be captured this way.
3. Anything Vintage
I love vintage stuff, whether is furniture, beautiful dresses, photography and even books. I love mixing eras and having things with a history behind it.
4. The Country
I love the country or anything green enough. I love being surrounded by trees, and grass and flowers. I love little old houses where the wooden floors creek with endless backyards. Unfortunately I don't see this in the city :/
5. Reading
I love reading. I have countless of books in my shelves. I just love cuddling up with hot cocoa in the winter or going to the park in the summer and spreading a blanket on the grass and reading a good book.  Sometimes is good to step away from your life and live someone else's for a few hours even if its a fictional character ;P
6. New York City
As much as I curse my apple in the winter, I most admit I have grown to love it even with its old buildings, dirty streets and smelly train stations. Because once it lights up in the night theres nothing like it.
7. My family
I love my family. Most of them are in my little Island of Quisqueya la Bella, so I only get to visit once or twice a year yet we are all so close and affectionate. My family is my backbone, without them I am nothing.
8. Children
I have a Psychology degree and children are my passion as you can even see from the previous post before this about my niece and nephew. I love working with children and helping a child out is one of the best feelings you can ever experience.
9. The Mister
I know a bit corny, but I do love the boyfriend. First time in my life I can actually say this. I found true love all the way in my middle twenties. I had even lost hope at times that I will never find a good one and a year and a half ago I finally found the one.
10. Quisqueya la Bella
This is where I was born and lived until I was eight years old. It is the most beautiful little island in my eyes, with all its little colorful vintage houses, mango trees in the backyards, and fresh tropical warm winds.

Now the ten bloggers that I like LOVE (besides Elegantly Wasted) are:
in no particular order btw ;P

There are too many blogs that I love, and I just wanted to keep on tagging but I'll just tag you dolls in the next one so don't think you'll sneak by, I will get you next time ;P

Aug 20, 2010

so I'm packing my suitcase and I'm off to...

Paris or Bust
Nope, not Paris, sorry to disappoint you ;D I am packing for Canada Yay! I'm more excited than if I was going to Paris, Italy, Hawaii, or any other place you can think of. Finally going to see my little Cupcake! And for those new here, Cupcake is my beautiful little niece Anabella. I believe I only have one picture of her here, and its exceedingly old (She is now 3 1/2). So I'll make sure to take lots of pictures of my beautiful little cupcake and of course my brand-new nephew (yeah I sound like if I'm talking about treats and cars lol). More exhilarating, I'm meeting my little nephew for the first time and can't wait to see him so I can come up with a cute little nickname for him ^_^. And believe it or not, I'm actually excited to leave my precious Macbook behind. Yeap, I said it. I'm actually leaving her behind and I'm committing myself not to go online, check my emails and blog (gasp!) as long as I'm there. I want to experience my little nephews to the maximum without the world of the web.  So bye-bye New York and everyone of you lovelies reading this, I'll be back in about two weeks :D

I am completely LOST IN TRANSLATION

What a beautiful movie, Sofia Coppola's movies are always visually a work of art, so soft and delicate. My favorite part was the ending, what a thoughtful message. I loved how it leaves you waiting for just a bit more, and then you realized the message was right there all throughout the movie. I always heard this movie had actually won an Oscar and like 70 other awards and nominations, but never got around to watching it till now. And all I can say is- just beautiful! The ending was just the right thing.

the perfect summer dress

06-15-10

So I was reading Annabel's gorgeous blog when I came upon these pictures and felt a familiarity to her lovely flowy dress. I recently got a dress very similar to this one from one of my favorite stores Zara's.  As I keep on reading I see that she also got her dress from -yes you guessed it- Zara's. As she mentions in her blog, Zara always comes out with different versions of this dress every year. This year's version is quite as lovely and delicate except it has hardly existent- sleeves. The details of this dress are so beautiful it has to be seen in person to understand how gorgeous they are. I know its a bit silly, but I'm so in love with Blushing Ambition that when I realized we have the same dress I couldn't help being a tiny bit too excited, silly huh? Well no wonder I'm so in love with Annabel's blog, we have similar styles ;) (ha ha yeah I know I WISH!)

On other news, months ago, I was in the hunt for a cute little white dress I can wear for a baptism and thanks to Keiko Lynn I bought the In Yo' Lace Dress. It was love at first sight. See the details of the dress on the back with the cute little black buttons? Adorable huh?! By the way, I am shorter than her so it fits me just a few inches before the knee so its perfect for the church. This dress I actually bought after reading Keiko's blog, unlike the Zara one. I bought it about a month ago, however if I had not bought it before Zara's dress I probably would have worn the Zara one. Nevertheless, this seems more appropriate since the sleeves are actually longer than the Zara's version I have.
I know, I love white dresses a little too much. But they are just so soft, delicate and feminine. If you haven't check out these girl's blogs, make sure you do, I'm in love with both and I know you probably will too ^_^
